Help! - Being Scrum Master job is harder than a therapist, what can I do?
The Scrum Master job is much harder than a therapists job! We work with an infinite variety that includes people's ever changing emotional reality.
One time, a friend came to work, she was tired. Her mom had recently died and her younger kids were sick for a few weeks already. She was clearly tired. Do you know how tired people react when put under pressure? Even if you think you do, you don't. Because every person is different, they can resist different levels of pressure.
How can we prepare for this near-infinite level of novelty when the expectations on the Scrum Master role are so high? In this talk we explore why the Scrum Master role might be the hardest in your company right now, and how to prepare and adopt the right stance that will help you succeed in that role!

Continuous Improvement at Scale - How to identify and resolve systemic impediments to progress
The problem with retrospectives is that the learnings identified often remain locally to the team. The wins, failures and improvements a team makes doesn't get shared widely. That knowledge is a resource & a powerful one.
What if you could zoom out across teams of teams?
Join me for an interactive exploration of my top tips, strategies, and hacks for continuous improvement at scale.
Together, we will explore how to break down silos and encourage collaboration between teams, how to identify systemic impediments that impact the entire organization, and how to leverage the power of retrospectives to drive change at scale.

Time to take a leap forward, then let's play with LEGO
I believe there are two metaphorical lines a Scrum Master could recognize in the organisation or team that could be the key to change!
In all the organizations I've worked in, I've seen two "parallel" lines:
A - the primary process, which is what we get paid for, and
B - the secondary process, which is how we do things and interact with each other.
In an ideal world, these lines should run parallel to each other, but in practice, this is often not the case. Both processes have a tremendous impact on each other and ultimately on the primary process. Ignoring the secondary process will hinder the growth or transition of the organization.
Using LEGO Serious Play, I help organizations visualize the secondary process and see its influence on the primary process. Through the use of the LSP method, the importance of the secondary process is made visible and tangible. It's time to let go of the illusion of parallel lines and focus on the secondary process to promote the growth of the organization.

Five mistakes I made during my first year as Scrum Master
If I could go back in time, what would I tell my past self about the Scrum Master role?
As a new Scrum Master with no technical background or experience in Agile, I made a few mistakes during my first year. From starting my days panicking over what to ask on Daily Standups, to feeling like I should know everything, my past self was many times focusing on the wrong things.
In this presentation, I will share the 5 biggest mistakes I made during my first year as a Scrum Master and how I solved them, providing practical solutions to problems that are quite often common among new Scrum Masters.
Two years into the Scrum Master role, I believe those experiences have taken me to the place I am now. The moment we stop making mistakes is the moment we stop learning.

In order to finish first, you first have to finish
If you aspire to construct or bring forth something remarkable as a team, it is crucial to ensure that you have the right individuals onboard who can go above and beyond to accomplish the task at hand.
Take Formula 1, for instance. The underlying principle in this high-stakes sport is: In order to finish first, you first have to finish. However, if you find yourself with the wrong team members or if they are not positioned correctly, reaching the finish line might become a challenge.
So, what are the essential elements required to reach that ultimate goal with the right people in the right positions?

Zen and the art of Agility
The three pillars of empiricism (transparency, inspection & adaptation) are key to team as wel as personal growth. See what is, how you value it and what to do next. For that it helps to just sit. No action, no judgement & no projections. To work with what is, requires an open mind. Which is challenging in a world where quick opinions and judgement-calls matter. We need more stepping back to make the right decisions.
The other inspiration for "what is" is nature. Life only works with what is. Not what could, should or must be. True agility means to adapt to what is, without being distracted by all the fantasies our mind can come up with. That is the mindset. Let's find out what simple steps you can take to slow down and make time to observe.

Celebration. Accentuating the positive.
Simply put it is customary due to the pressures of the modern workplace for most teams to deploy and simply move on to the next task. This skips one of the most important parts of any development cycle - Celebration & Reflection. Whether the deployment is a success or not celebrating the intention and effort put into it can give teams time to reflect, the inspiration, motivation and energy to move to the next task or project with increased enthusiasm vigor and drive.

Additionally, people with good connections are happier, less stressed and more engaged at work. In this workshop where we focus on #ConnectionOverContent we will explore together how we can (better) connect our team members - and everyone else who is involved – to each other. Because without relatedness, no work can occur!

The Secret of YOU: Embracing your authentic self to drive change in the agile organization
'The Secret of YOU: Embracing your authentic self to drive change in the agile organization' is about breaking down the "fourth wall" between who you really are as your authentic self and the expectation that companies have bestowed on us from centuries ago. The way we work and choose to work nowadays has drastically changed to allow for a more honest, empathetic and vulnerable approach to how we get things done. If we want to drive change and embrace true agility and transformation within our organisations - why do we still hold back and present the outdated 'textbook' version of what employees ought to be?
This talk covers what it means to be authentically YOU and the benefits thereof:
- What it means to be authentic
- Your personal mission & vision statement
- The ingredients of your secret sauce
- How agile transformation happens with you first
- Driving change without the title
- Real leaders show up as themselves
- Agility = Transparency = Who are YOU?
There will be interactive activities, multimedia materials, some physical movement, ample time for Q&A and the opportunity for LOTS of FUN!

Why, I believe, Agile & Scrum Values can change the world?
You’ve probably heard it before: “Culture eats strategy for bring breakfast.” - Peter F. Drucker but actually, he never said that.
While the company culture and values might be challenging during the change or transformation to the new way of working, there is a way to overcome it. The approach guided me and my teams and I hope it could be useful for you and your company as well.
Are you curious to try and learn more about it?
If above sounds interesting - please be invited to the event, with focus on a company culture and agile journey.

Acceptance Criteria is not a Definition of Done, let's create a Definition of Done together!
Misconceptions and misapplications of Acceptance Criteria and Definition of Done can cause confusion and inconsistent quality within organizations. In this engaging and practical session, we will untangle these often misunderstood terms, clearly defining their separate roles and implications. Participants will collaboratively construct a comprehensive, team-driven Definition of Done on a reusable Miro board that you can use with your teams!
This process is not just educational—it's essential. With production bugs estimated to be many times more costly than those identified in development, gaining shared understanding of 'Done' is pivotal to improving product quality and operational efficiency.

The things I love most in life are seeing the world, great food and great people as they tend to hold all the coolest secrets.

How can we prepare for this near-infinite level of novelty when the expectations on the Scrum Master role are so high? In this talk we explore why the Scrum Master role might be the hardest in your company right now, and how to prepare and adopt the right stance that will help you succeed in that role!

Scrum Masters, Shine bright: Unleash the Magic of Connection!
As Scrum Masters we want the people in our team to be accountable, responsible, innovative and to deliver value. Research shows us that before a team can use their collective knowledge to its full extent they have to build relationships first. Additionally, people with good connections are happier, less stressed and more engaged at work. In this workshop where we focus on #ConnectionOverContent we will explore together how we can (better) connect our team members - and everyone else who is involved – to each other. Because without relatedness, no work can occur!

Learn how to make impact as a Scrum Master
The Online Scrum Master Summit 2022 had a nice mix of interesting topics and I even rewatched some of the recordings this year to refresh some of the topics that had already faded from memory. I think everyone working in an agile environment would have received value from last year's edition. So I'm already looking forward to the next!
- Jeroen de Jong, founder of Allict
As I am settling into my new role, I would like to thank The Online Scrum Master Summit 2022 for starting me off on a high note.
- Faith B., Agile Coach
The summit offers a wide range of talks for all levels of experience. Also different topics not only related with specific role of scrum master but more wide, like presentation skills.
- Alba, OSMS22 attendee
The conference was truly a remarkable experience. The organization of the summit was outstanding, every detail was carefully thought out. The speaker's knowledge and experience were evident in their presentations and each speaker had a unique perspective. The talks were engaging and interactive, providing attendees with a hands-on experience that helped them apply what they had learned.
The summit provided a great opportunity for networking with other professionals in the industry. I was able to connect with several like-minded individuals and exchange ideas and best practices. The atmosphere was friendly, and everyone was eager to learn from one another.
I highly recommend Agile Pro Center's Online Scrum Master Summit 2023 to anyone in the industry looking to improve their Agile knowledge and skills!
- Philip van Uden, Scrum Master at Capgemini Engineering
MEET YOUR HOST, ESTHER SCHMIT!
Agile Coach and founder of Agile Pro Center.
I happily spend my time on helping people grow and making the best of their project. Being an agile coach, I am able to train and coach multiple teams, product owners, scrum masters as well as management and stakeholders. It’s extremely versatile, but most of all very rewarding. By organising the Online Scrum Master Summit, I can even help more people, which makes me truly happy.
Before founding APC, I noticed that many training courses concerning scrum and agile focused mainly on theory. After completing a course in one or two days, you get a certificate and that’s it. Nobody really knows how to put all this theory in practice, and I think that's very strange. In addition to the summit I am also creating courses and my goal in creating the summit and courses is to provide everyone with the chance to develop their practical skills.
''Esther Schmit's leadership throughout the event was exceptional. She was present and involved in every aspect of the summit, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Her passion and dedication for Agile methodologies were apparent, and she was always available to answer questions and provide guidance.''
